Bristol's first permanent ice rink since 2012

Planet Ice Bristol opened its doors to the public on Monday 25 October 2021, almost ten years after the Leisure Rink in the city centre closed. Baylis Estates developed the 45,000 square foot building at Cribbs Causeway, Beard Construction was the main contractor and Planet Ice took a 25 year lease. It has seating for 1,300 spectators, and Bristol had been without an indoor ice rink since 2012.

The rink is home to the Bristol Pitbulls, founded in 2009. They lost their rink in 2012 and played their home games in Oxford until 30 October 2021, when goaltender John Dibble led them onto the new ice against the Romford Raiders and Jay Warren scored first in a 6-1 win. The Pitbulls now play in the NIHL National League, the second tier of English hockey.
