Home ice of the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks

The Plex is the Saugeen Shores Community Complex in Port Elgin. The town's arenas host hockey games, figure skating, public skates and other events, with multi-purpose rooms, halls and canteens. The complex was built in 2000, and with it came pressure to bring a senior or junior team to the town, which had been without one since the Lakeshore Winterhawks folded in 1996.

After a short-lived attempt to share the Junior B Owen Sound Greys, the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks entered the WOAA Senior Hockey League in 2007-08. The name is a tribute to the Lakeshore Winterhawks, who played from 1989 to 1996. Saugeen Shores hosted its first home game on October 12, 2007, against the Shelburne Muskies. That first season the team won its first nine games and finished 23-3-0, first in the North Division. The team has won four league championships, and home playoff games have drawn more than a thousand spectators. In the summer of 2023 it left the WOAA with 10 other clubs to found the Ontario Elite Hockey League, a senior AA league under the Ontario Hockey Association.
