Skate Sharpening at Morgan Park Sports Center
Morgan Park Sports Center is the Chicago Park District’s ice and gymnastics building on Western Avenue on the city’s far South Side, near Beverly. Its rink has a 1,200-seat bleacher area and is home to the Chicago Horned Frogs youth hockey program, synchronized skating and a busy learn-to-skate schedule.
The building sharpens skates itself. At weekends it works on a drop-off basis, so leave a pair on Saturday and collect it the next day; on weekdays it is worth calling the front desk to book a time outside the posted hours. Skates that have never been sharpened are priced separately, so say if the pair is new.
Jerry’s Hockey in Crestwood and Southwest Ice Arena are both about four miles west, and Oak Lawn Ice Arena is a similar distance, if you need a hockey shop or more ice.
