What this place is
Rainbo Sports’ Chicago-area store, a figure skating shop in the Wilshire Commons plaza on Shermer Road (in Glenview, with a Northbrook mailing address).

Rainbo Sports began in 1956 as a small rink shop in Chicago’s Rainbo Ice Arena and grew into a national figure skating retailer with a dealer network in 44 states. This is its Chicago-area store, in the middle of the Wilshire Commons plaza on Shermer Road just south of Willow Road; the building is in Glenview, though its mail goes to Northbrook.
It is a figure skating shop through and through: boots, blades and the care that goes with them, with sharpening for competitive skaters, recreational skaters and coaches. The repairs page also gives the staff’s rule of thumb for how often to sharpen, worth a read for new skating parents.
The store is working by appointment only for now, so call before you drive over, especially for a boot fitting. Northbrook Sports Center and Glenview Community Ice Center are both under two miles away, and Rainbo’s mobile arm, Rainbo2U, visits skating clubs around the Midwest.
