The Chippewa Area Ice Arena has two full-size indoor rinks, an outdoor rink and a capacity of 1,280. It is home to the Chippewa Youth Hockey Association's Chippewa Thunder, and the Chippewa Figure Skating Club, in existence since 1980, is affiliated with the association.
After the 2017–18 season, owner Steve Black moved his North American Hockey League franchise here as the Chippewa Steel. On June 12, 2026, the league announced that the Steel would relocate to Pueblo, Colorado.
The rink's original chiller relies on a refrigerant that is no longer manufactured, the focus of the association's Keeping It Cool campaign. Outside the hockey season the outdoor rink hosts events such as the spring Beerfest. A permanent Yard of Ice display in the arena honours coaches, family members and favourite skaters.
