West Hartford's town rink, nearly 60 years old
Veterans Memorial Skating Rink is the Town of West Hartford's public rink, nearly 60 years old, with its last major renovation nearly 25 years ago. The town closed it on March 30, 2026 for upgrades: a new refrigeration system with all-new piping and concrete flooring, new dasher boards, new glass and netting, and updated lobby flooring, locker rooms and perimeter areas.
The building has an NHL-sized 200-by-85-foot ice surface, a café and a pro shop. About 35,000 people a year use it for skating, hockey games and special events. Just before the renovation began it was the scheduled site of the NEICC 2026 Eastern Sectional High School Final, with more than 165 skaters from 24 high school teams.
The rink also supports local school and youth hockey programs, and the town lists October 19, 2026 as its planned reopening date.
