Sidney Crosby's home rink in Cole Harbour
Cole Harbour Place is a multi-purpose facility with two sheets of ice, swimming pools, a library and outside fields for soccer, tennis and baseball. It is where Sidney Crosby first learned to play hockey. During his minor hockey days it was the arena where he honed his skills, hoping to make the NHL one day. Crosby later chose it for his own hockey school. Inside the arena, banners honour both Crosby and Nathan MacKinnon. MacKinnon is a Cole Harbour native who grew up idolizing Crosby and became one of his best friends.
After winning the Stanley Cup in 2009 and 2016, Crosby brought it home, with stops that included Cole Harbour Place. In October 2023 he brought his Pittsburgh Penguins to the rink. Fans began gathering early, and by midmorning the line snaked out to the street. Crosby remembered practising there twice a week as a boy, an hour at a time.
