Ledena šuma, Novi Sad's winter rink in the Danube Park
Ledena šuma, the Ice Forest, calls itself the longest winter event in Serbia. It is held traditionally in December and January in the Danube Park in Novi Sad and, the organisers say, gathers more than a hundred thousand visitors from the country and abroad every year.
The central rink stands in a covered space, and each shift is limited to 450 skaters. Free help for the youngest skaters runs every weekday from 9:00 to 10:30, a covered stage hosts concerts and DJ sets, and the organisers promise live music every weekend.
Wooden huts in the park serve food and drink and run a winter bazaar of handicrafts and sweets. The organisers' association lets part of the space to a private company that sets up and runs the rink, while the cultural programme and the huts are co-financed by the City of Novi Sad.
