Oscar Mathisen's and Sonja Henie's home ice

Frogner stadion, at the edge of Frognerparken, is one of Oslo's oldest skating grounds. The first Frogner stadion was laid out in 1901 and soon became the city's main arena for speed skating, and in 1914 it moved to its present site. At the opening meet on 10 January 1914 Oscar Mathisen set a world record over 500 metres, the first time under 44 seconds. In the mid-1930s it was the world's most important track for developing women's speed skating, and the first three unofficial women's world championships were held here in 1933, 1934 and 1935.

Frogner was the home ground of both Oscar Mathisen and Sonja Henie, and each has a statue outside the rink. The stands and clubhouse burned in 1948 and a new facility was not finished until 1965. The present artificially frozen 400 metre track opened in connection with the Norwegian speed skating championships in December 2010, opened formally by King Harald V. In summer the pitch is artificial grass, used by Frigg Oslo and Lyn, and in winter it is iced for speed skating, bandy and general public time.
