Somero's ice hall, built in 1998 on a glulam frame by local shareholders, with a public-skating calendar
Someron jäähalli was set up as a company in 1997 at Somero's town hall by a group of local enthusiasts, with the town and the local business community joining from the start. The town owns a minority of the shares and the rest are held by private people and businesses, and the hall was built in the summer of 1998 with a great deal of volunteer work.
The hall has a glulam frame and plastic-coated steel walls, and the rink is chilled by a freezium brine in its pipework. The building is 70 by 36 metres and holds a flexible rink of 58 by 28 metres, four changing rooms, a sauna, a sharpening room and a drying room. A stand seats about 600 and the cafe covers 130 square metres.
In summer the floor is a sport-court surface suited to roller hockey. The ice season runs from August to March, and the hall's calendar shows the public-skating sessions, which the hall points visitors to in its autumn news.
