Built in 1968, roofed in 1974 and reopened in January 2009 after a rebuild that kept only four corners
Tychy's ice rink was built in 1968. It was roofed in 1974, and four years later walls and stands were added. In 1992 the cooling system, the ice slab and the piping were replaced, and in the summer of 2005 a serious ammonia leak from the cooling plant closed the rink for a time.
A general overhaul in 2007 left practically only four corners of the old rink untouched. The new Stadion Zimowy was opened on 16 January 2009 in the presence of the Minister of Sport and the head of the Polish Olympic Committee, and its operator calls it the most modern rink of its kind in Poland. It seats 2,535 spectators, has eleven dressing rooms and a conference room, and is watched by fifty-seven cameras.
The building also serves as a stage for the city's hockey club: one September evening its facade became a screen showing the history of GKS Tychy. The same rink hosts special public sessions, such as the skating session organised by the club's SKKH Atomówki section with MOSiR for the third Ice Hockey Day.
