Haines Junction's 1986 arena, home to 50 years of minor hockey

Built in 1986, the Bill Brewster Arena is a cornerstone of winter recreation in Haines Junction, open from mid October through to the end of March. Minor Hockey has operated in the community for 50 years and consistently has 50-60 players, which keep several volunteer coaches busy each season.

The sport brings games, the Yukon Championship, a women's jamboree, power skating and learn to skate clinics, a skills camp, an all girls hockey camp and a Christmas All-Star weekend for the kids. During the winter, the school books the arena regularly to provide skating and hockey as part of its Physical Education program.

For adult players there are Old-timer's and Female Hockey leagues. In recent years the arena has also accommodated curling, with one or two bonspiels hosted annually by curlers from around the territory, and a popular weekend broomball tournament winds up every arena season.
