Fort St. John's three-floor ice centre

The Pomeroy Sport Centre in Fort St. John holds two ice hockey rinks, a long-track speed skating rink and a walking track. Its speed skating ice was first used on December 23, 2009. The building officially opened on October 13, 2010. Besides meeting local needs, it was part of a provincial effort to bring more elite sport to regional centres. The Peace River Region had produced several of Canada's top speed skaters. The city later signed a fifteen-year naming deal with the Pomeroy Group.

The ground floor has two NHL-sized rinks and 12 dressing rooms. The second floor holds one of three indoor Olympic-sized long-track speed skating ovals in Canada; the others are in Calgary and Quebec City. It is the only such indoor venue in British Columbia since the Richmond Olympic Oval became a general recreation centre after the 2010 Winter Olympics. On the third floor, the NVT Logistics Walking Track runs 340 metres around, with heated tubing throughout. Council decided in the fall of 2009 that the track would always be free for the public. Outside the ice season, every ice surface can be removed for major sport and cultural events and trade shows.

The first floor is also home to the Sport Celebration Wall. City staff began working with consultants on the idea in the fall of 2011, and a Sport Celebration Committee of local volunteers and partners followed in early 2012. The wall honours the athletes, coaches and sport builders who have represented Fort St. John on the world stage.
