A Cedar Springs rink bought by a community nonprofit
Cedar Rock Sportsplex in Cedar Springs had been for sale for several years when a group of local residents formed a nonprofit, Project Advantage, and negotiated a land contract with the previous owners. Project Advantage began operating the sportsplex on July 1, 2022, and more than 150 volunteers put in over 1,200 hours in the first few weeks cleaning, organizing and painting.
In September 2024 the nonprofit completed its land contract and officially took ownership, thanking the previous owners for more than 20 years of service. Cedar Rock is home to RAMS Hockey, Max Futbol, Grand Rapids Curling, West Michigan Dog Sports and adult hockey and soccer leagues.
On October 4, 2026, the Detroit Red Wings held their first Learn to Play session at the rink, and the NHL and NHL Players' Association Industry Growth Fund donated a new Zamboni to replace an aging machine whose unreliability was affecting operations.
