Hespeler's twin-pad memorial arena
Hespeler Memorial Arena is a twin-pad arena, and the City offers summer ice here. Both of its sheets are Olympic-sized. The name goes back to 1947, when Norman Hipel's construction company, which built a large number of arenas, erected the Hespeler Memorial Arena. Hipel had started the company in Preston in 1920 with ten employees, five horses and a portable sawmill. It specialized in buildings that needed large, uninterrupted floor space.
The arena is home to the Cambridge Turbos of the National Ringette League. The Turbos were founded in 2003, as the league was being established, and have played in it since its first season. They won the Open Division of the 2006 Canadian Ringette Championships. The Hespeler Shamrocks of the Provincial Junior Hockey League also list it as their home arena. That club played in Simcoe from 1959, as the Simcoe Storm from 1989 to 2017, before relocating to Hespeler in 2018.
