Rutherford County's first outdoor ice rink
In November 2017 Fountains Plaza was set to open Rutherford County's first outdoor ice skating rink as part of Winterfest at Fountains at Gateway. That first season was scheduled to run through January 3. Hearthstone Properties, whose president Scott Graby introduced the rink, created Fountains at Gateway as a corporate office campus, an upscale dining and retail district and a community event venue. Winterfest was the first of the community events planned there.
The first season was planned with themed skate nights, among them ugly Christmas sweater and Nashville Predators nights, along with movie nights on the rink, Christmas caroling and photos with Santa. The rink was also offered for corporate events, holiday parties, school spirit nights and church and youth events. A large chiller holds the ice between 10 and 15 degrees Fahrenheit, so it keeps through warm spells. A light drizzle does not affect the ice, and heavier rain closes it only for a short while.
