Open in Union since 2002
Union Sports Arena opened in 2002, and Ken, who still runs the building, has been in charge since that opening. With close to two decades in operation, the arena's staff have built up a deep bench of program experience.
The building has a main ice surface and a second sheet called The Pond, where the beginner clinics are held, plus a turf field. Janet's Living Room Cafe, the snack bar and lounge on the second floor, looks out over the main ice surface.
Hockey here runs from the NJ Devils Learn to Play program for beginners up to the Union Thunder travel program, which Matt runs. The arena remembers its former assistant general manager, Janet Januszewski, with a scholarship fund in her name that awards one or more college scholarships each year to youth hockey players graduating from a Union County high school.
