Pembroke's 1951 memorial arena

The Pembroke Memorial Centre is a 2,250-seat multi-purpose arena, one of the city's two ice hockey arenas along with the Pembroke & Area Community Centre. It was named as a tribute to the soldiers who served in the First and Second World Wars. Its grand opening was celebrated on Remembrance Day, 1951, with an exhibition game between the Pembroke Senior Lumber Kings and the Montreal Canadiens. Future Hall of Famers Maurice Richard, Bernie Geoffrion, Elmer Lach and Doug Harvey played for the Canadiens that night. NHL president Clarence Campbell took part in the ceremonial puck drop before a sold-out crowd of nearly 5,000.

The arena was home to the Pembroke Senior Lumber Kings until 1958, and later to the now-defunct Pembroke Lumber Kings. In 2026 it became the home of the Pembroke Royals of the Central Canada Hockey League. The Royals are a new CCHL franchise that replaced the former Pembroke Lumber Kings and began their first season in the fall of 2026.
