Home ice of the Lakefield Chiefs

The Lakefield-Smith Community Centre has one sheet of ice in winter and is home to the Lakefield Chiefs Jr. C hockey team. The Chiefs emerged in the late 1970s in the Eastern Junior D Hockey League. In 1977-78 they beat the Exeter Hawks in Game 7 to win their first OHA Cup as provincial champions. A year later they took a second straight OHA Cup as Ontario Junior D champions.

In 1980 they were promoted to the Central Lakeshore Junior C Hockey League. In 1987 they beat the Norwich Merchants 4-games-to-2 for their first Clarence Schmalz Cup. In 2000 they beat the Belle River Canadiens for a second All-Ontario Junior C title. Their league became the Orr Division of the Provincial Junior Hockey League in 2016-17. In February 2024 the PJHL announced that Lakefield and North Kawartha would move from the Orr Division to the Tod Division for 2024-25.
