Richardson's Ice Training Center, opened 2001
The rink opened for business in 2001 as the Ice Training Center. It billed itself as the first gymnasium-style ice rink in the north Texas area. Unlike the family ice centres with their extras, it was a no-frills rink with team locker rooms, at a price youth, high school and adult leagues could afford. The 51,000-square-foot building holds two regulation NHL-size rinks. Only limited team facilities were built, to keep construction costs and operating expenses to a minimum.
In 2004 the rink ran its third annual Ice Training Center Fall Classic. The Dallas Oilers youth hockey club joined the NTXHL for the 2010-2011 season, citing its relationship with the Ice Training Center. In August 2014 the Dallas Stars' parent company announced it was buying the rink's operations. The Ice Training Center was to become the Dr Pepper StarCenter Richardson, the seventh StarCenter in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. Today it is one of the Dallas Stars' Children's Health StarCenters, the team's network of family skating rinks.
