Sherwood Park's 1979 arena and curling complex

Glen Allan Recreation Complex was built in 1979 with a curling rink and lounge, a hockey arena, two fitness centres, a whirlpool and a sauna. It stands in Glen Allan, a mature Sherwood Park neighbourhood. Besides the ice arena, it has a fitness centre, a whirlpool and sauna, the curling rink, racquet courts, a group fitness studio and an outdoor nine-hole disc golf course. The facility underwent a large revitalization project in 2016. For curling, that work brought a new brine system, a concrete curling surface, a new pro shop and locker room and an upgraded meeting room and lounge.

The curling rink is home to the Sherwood Park Curling Club, which began in 1963 at the Broadmoor Golf Club and moved here in 1979. Strathcona County first ran the curling rink, and in the fall of 2003 a new Sherwood Park Curling Club was created to take on its management. Over the next ten years the club grew to more than 800 members, and by 2014 it was close to 1,000, with leagues every night of the week. In the 2023/24 season the club marked its 20th anniversary and 60 years of curling in Strathcona County.
