Manotick's 1974 arena and its community facelift
Manotick Arena was built in 1974. In June 2015, MCPRA representatives Mike O'Neil, David Arntfield and Noel Norenius visited local MP Pierre Poilievre to ask about federal infrastructure money to enlarge and enhance the arena. Once the federal government committed the funding, the City agreed to deliver the expansion and code upgrades by March 2018. The MCPRA board took on community fundraising, and the team led by Mike O'Neil hit its goal late in 2017. A Wall of Appreciation was widely supported in the community.
Construction began in May 2017, and the facility was made fully available to the public in late February 2018. During the work, user groups were back on the ice in early October, with change trailers and a washroom trailer paid for by the groups themselves. The long-overdue facelift enlarged the main-floor dressing rooms and added permanent program space with storage on the second floor. The project thanked volunteer groups including the Osgoode-Rideau Minor Hockey Association, the Kiwanis Club of Manotick, the Manotick Lions, the adult hockey leagues, ROSSS/YOMA, MVCA and MCPRA.
